Age Groups

At Heart Of Albany in order to provide customised care and development of each child, children are grouped into the following approximate age ranges.

Age 3 months – 2 years: Nursery and Infants Program. (Imaginers)

Our youngest learners thrive in an environment filled with warmth, love, and responsive care. During these important early years, babies develop secure attachments that form the foundation for lifelong learning. Our caring teachers provide gentle, consistent routines that help each child feel safe, valued, and understood. Every cuddle, conversation, smile, and moment of responsive care builds trust and supports your baby's emotional wellbeing.

Age 2-3 years: Toddlers Program. (Dreamers)

Toddlers are naturally curious, energetic, and eager to become more independent. Our Dreamers programme encourages children to confidently explore their world while developing strong social, emotional, and communication skills. Our teachers create engaging and nurturing environments where children can learn through play, exploration, and discovery. We recognise that caring relationships provide the foundation for learning. By creating secure, respectful partnerships with children and families, we support every child to become confident and capable.

Age 3-4 years: Junior Pre-School Program. (Storytellers)

Our Storytellers are naturally inquisitive learners who love asking questions, investigating ideas, and making sense of the world around them. Our learning programmes evolve from children's interests, allowing them to revisit ideas through conversations, shared stories, and purposeful experiences that deepen understanding and inspire a love of learning. Children also enjoy daily opportunities to strengthen their physical coordination, balance, and confidence through active play, laying strong foundations for future success.

Age 4-5 years: Pre-Schoolers Program. (Discoverers)

Our Discoverers are confident learners preparing for the exciting transition to primary school. Our school readiness programme focuses on developing early literacy and numeracy skills through meaningful experiences, dispositions, and confidence children need for lifelong learning while ensuring learning remains joyful, engaging, and play-based. Our school readiness incorporates our Tamariki developing early literacy or numeracy skills. Our programme nurtures confident, curious, resilient children who are socially and emotionally prepared to embrace new learning opportunities with enthusiasm.
