What to Consider When Choosing a Childcare Provider

We care for children from 3 months to 6 years of age across four dedicated, age-appropriate rooms. Our environments are tailored to support each developmental stage:

  • Imaginers: 3 months to 2 years (Nursery)

  • Dreamers: 2 to 3 years (Toddlers)

  • Storytellers: 3 to 4 years (Young Preschoolers)

  • Discoverers: 4 to 6 years (Preschool & Transition to School)

Our teaching is guided by Te Whāriki (NZ Early Childhood Curriculum) and enriched by Reggio Emilia-inspired, emergent learning. We follow each child’s natural interests and curiosity, providing hands-on, play-based experiences that foster creativity, critical thinking, independence, and strong social connections.

Taking part in ECE builds a strong foundation for your child’s ongoing education, learning and development. Children learn lots of new skills by participating in ECE, building on the skills they learn at home and from their families/whānau.

We share real-time updates, photos, meal details, and learning stories through our private parent app. In addition to digital updates, our kaiako (teachers) prioritize face-to-face chats at drop-off and pick-up times so you always stay connected to your child’s day.

Yes, we welcome parents to book a guided tour of our centre at 10 Corinthian Drive, Albany. Visiting allows you to meet our teaching team, view our indoor and outdoor learning spaces, observe daily routines, and ask any specific questions about your family’s needs.

Our Discoverers room (ages 4 to 6) runs a dedicated transition-to-school pathway that builds independence, self-help skills, literacy, and numeracy concepts. We help children develop the social-emotional resilience, confidence, and curiosity needed to step smoothly into primary school.

Our son started at Heart Of Albany ECE when he was just one, and he's been part of the family there ever since. Over the past two years he's moved through three different rooms, and honestly, each stage has been great for him and for us. One thing we really love is how the place grows with the kids. There are separate rooms for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, so the learning and care always matches where they're at. We've watched our son go through every one of those rooms, and every teaching team has been warm, patient, and genuinely kind to him. He's come such a long way — more confident, chattier, more independent, better with other kids. But the biggest thing is that he's happy. In the blink of an eye, Nathan has finished his infant and preschool journey which began at Heart of Albany in Nov 2021 when he was just 6 month old.
